A few weeks after I came home from the States, we all went on another family camping trip to the Mandurah Caravan Park. It was a really super time. We rode our bikes to the ocean (where Elliot stripped off all his clothes and ran around on his own private nudie beach), we took a cruise through the canals admiring the richie rich homes and the dolphins playing in the boat's wake, but mostly we just hung around the campground and watched the boys play. Ollie was content digging in the sand and playing on the seesaw while Elliot was busy jumping nonstop on the bouncy pillow and falling in love with his new best friend Sarah. I know I've said this a hundred times at least, but we couldn't have asked for two cruisier or more fun little travellers.

We miss you, Mom
These pictures show it all: your beauty, your spunk, your love.
I sure wish my boys would have had the chance to know you better.

Love these photos!!
During my mom's chemo, her sister came and stayed with her and the two of them had a blast getting into all sorts of mischief including taking some pretty awesome photo booth snaps. After Mom died, we were looking through all of her old photos for a memory board and came across another strip of photos when these two sisters were a bit younger.
Looking at these photos makes me really happy. I'm pretty lucky to have had both these ladies in my life. One thing for sure: they sure know how to laugh!

Big boy bed
One night when I was tucking Oliver into his crib, he says to me "Mommy, my want cuddles in bed" obviously referring to the fact that we lay in bed with Elliot every night for five minutes to help him settle into bed. I explain that as much I'd love to lay in bed and cuddle him too that I just wouldn't fit in the crib with him. And then Ollie looks me straight in the eyes and says sternly, "MY WANT BIG BOY BED." Right, we got the message and couldn't think of any logical argument why Ollie shouldn't have a big boy bed except that we were afraid he'd keep us up because he'd be free to get up on his own.
So the next weekend, we went out and bought the boys bunk beds (don't worry we only put up the bottom bunk for Elliot until the boys get quite a bit older). Ollie inherited the extendo-toddler bed that Elliot has been using, and from the very first night Oliver has spent all night in the bed never climbing out once. In the mornings, he calls out "I want to get up" just like he did from his cot just like nothing has changed at all except for now he gets his nightly cuddles just like Elliot.

Scary?!?
This is how my boys waved me off to work the other day. Um . . . what can I say? I've got some special boys (all THREE of them!!) in my life.

Easter 2013
Mommy made it home from the States just in time to spend Easter with Daddy, Elliot and me. I may have been a little bit slow last year, but I sure got into the egg hunting this year! ~ Oliver

Ollie 2.0
Oh Ollie, this has been a long time coming, and I don't even know where to start. Maybe it's because you never stop!
One thing for sure is you are definitely TWO! Oh boy, do you know how to throw a tantrum. Several a day. Several before eight some mornings! The littlest thing can start you off, but it's always more or less about the same thing: you wanted to do something on your own, your way and somebody else got in the way of that happening. And now you are MAD as hell. And we have learned to stand well clear until you decide you're ready to calm down and move on with the day.
But sweetheart, as frustrating as your tantrums are, the other side of your determination has your dad and I gobsmacked. You can sit for thirty minutes patiently struggling to put your own socks on or put yourself into your car seat or hang up your own jacket (shouting "My Do It!" whenever we try to help). Unfortunately, we just don't always have the time to wait for you to do it all on your own, your way. And sometimes, believe it or not, we have to do it Mom's or Dad's or even Elliot's way. As frustrating as this is for your dad and I now, I reckon with that determination, you are going to be really successful at whatever you decide to do in life.
But that's not all you are. Nope. You are also amazingly content. You are so happy to play on your own for ages, pushing the cars around the carpet, digging in the garden, rocking on the rocking horse or just playing with your dolls on your bed when you're in time out (you didn't know we could hear you, did you?)
And you are also surprisingly funny. Elliot has always been such a ham and big personality, that it could have been easy for you to get lost in the shadows. But nope, not you. You've developed your own zany sense of humour that keeps us in stitches.
And your language skills continue to knock our socks off. Even though you sometimes get frustrated when you can't get the words out quickly enough, you amaze us at the way you are starting to tell us detailed stories about the things that happen in your day or the things you just make up.
You idolize your big brother and copy most everything he does (including the naughty things!), but you certainly don't sit back and just take it anymore when he tries to push you around. Nope you've learned to stand your ground and push back, and your dad and I are becoming all too aware that the arguments and sibling rivalry are just a hint of what's to come over the next twenty years or so. Good thing you two also defend and love each other so much (even if Elliot tries really hard not to show it sometimes!)

But probably, my most favourite thing about you these days is the way you are just so cuddly. I love the way you come running, arms up, smiling and shouting, "Mommy, mommy!" whenever I get home from work. I love it when you climb up into my lap asking for cuddles or when you give your 'Paul Daddy' BIG squeezes. And I just love how when we lay together at night in your big boy bed you put both your arms around my neck and say, "My love you, mommy!"
You are such a wonderfully fun, energetic, determined and awesome kid, Oliver. Sometimes we wonder if the world is really ready for you. Sometimes we wonder if we're ready for you!

My little fishies
Over the summer, something just clicked with Elliot, and all of a sudden he could swim. First it was just for a meter or two, but as his confidence grew he was soon swimming all over our pool. And since Elliot could swim, Oliver decided he should be able too. He doesn't go quite as far, but it's just amazing to watch this little boy paddle his way along under the water.
And then Elliot decided that he wanted to learn to dive, and of course that meant Oliver too. So now they both dive.
We haven't caught all these wonders on film yet, but we've got a heap of super videos of the boys having a ball at their swimming lessons posted on my YouTube channel.
Can't wait for next summer!

Happy Birthday Oliver!
Just because it's taken me forever to post these photos (and videos!) from our family party for Oliver's 2nd birthday, it doesn't mean it wasn't a heap of fun!! Oliver was so excited (!!!) about all of his presents. You really should check out a few of the videos:
Ollie gets a book
Ollie gets a car
Ollie gets a movie
Ollie gets a guitar
Ollie gets a balance bike
Ollie gets a circus tent
Ollie blows out his candles
Or at least have a look at the photos:
And in true Ollie-style he nearly face-planted his candles trying to blow them out!

Paul's an awesome dad
How lucky am I to know that Paul would take care of my boys and everything else back home (including a ceiling caving in!!!) as I rushed off to spend time with my mom. And just to prove that all was okay, here are a couple of the photos he texted me while I was away.
I don't know what I'd do with you Paul!
