Elliot's metrosexual tendencies

One thing I bet you didn't know is how much Elliot loves to primp. He comes running to brush his teeth, can't wait for his rub downs with lotion after his bath (to the point that he rolls over with his little bum in the air as soon as we finish drying him off), and loves to have his hair combed and styled.

He's also not ashamed to sport a bit of makeup. Whenever he sees me applying the stuff, he begs me for some too. So I powder his nose and give him a little pretend blush and eye shadow.

The funniest thing though is whenever I put lip balm on, Elliot has to have his too. After I put it on him, he happily rubs his lips together and then puckers them together with a smack just like his mom. It's priceless!

Trick or Treat!

Elliot is a comedian

We already knew that Elliot had a really great sense of humor, but how could we guess that he'd be telling jokes before he's even two!

So fasten your seat belts for Elliot's first official jokes. The first one:

Elliot: Knock Knock
Me: Who's there?
Elliot: Nana (as in banana)
Me: Nana who?
Elliot: Num Num (as in yummy!)

. . . get it? Bananas are nummy! Is this kid funny or what?

And the second:

Elliot: Knock Knock
Me: Who's there?
Elliot: Car
Me: Car who?
Elliot: Vroom vroom

He kills me!

The Kelmscott Show!

For weeks and weeks, Mommy and Daddy have been going on and on about the Annual Kelmscott Show (for you American readers, Mommy says it's like a county fair only smaller). You can bet I was pretty excited to see what it was all about.

And holy dooley was it a LOT of FUN!

First, I fed and patted the animals.

And some of them really stank!

And then I went on a pony ride.

And then I jumped in a jumpy castle.

Meet Oliver Thomas!

We went in for our 19-week anatomy scan last week and got to have a 3-D look at the newest member of the family. Everything looks absolutely perfect. He's got all his parts in all the right places and if you ask me, he's already quite the looker! This was our favorite photo, and no he doesn't have a stump for an arm. It just looks that way in this photo.

And yes, we're pretty set on the name Oliver, but we're going back and forth on middle names. I quite like Milo, but that's the name of the main brand of hot chocolate here so Paul thinks it's not so great. We're looking for something fun. Any ideas?

Look who got gussied up!

Since getting all fancied up is such a rarity for us, we thought that we better get photos! Paul and I went to a 40th cocktail party last weekend and had a great time. I even treated myself to a couple glasses of 3/4 sprite 1/4 champagne!

If you look close you can see my now quite obvious baby bump.

Dirt Heaven!

Hi folks! Here's a couple of pictures of me playing in my great big sand box. Can you tell I really like dirt? ~ Elliot

Oliver LIVE!

Here's a little look at our newest creation. I just can't wait to meet the little guy! It's amazing how it's just as incredible the second time around (even if I don't have as much time to blog about it as I did when I was pregnant with Elliot). We're in love with little Oliver already! Just look at him . . .

The Great News!!!

Just wanted to add a quick post that our appointment with the pediatrician was fantastic. Dr. Kennedy took one look at Elliot and said "There is nothing seriously wrong with that little boy. He's just had some bad luck with being sick." When I pressed if he was completely sure (I told you that I've been in a panic), he assured me that kids who have serious immune problems, cancer etc. look unwell. They're not happy, they're small, they're lethargic and they're certainly not as cheeky as Elliot. Okay I added that last part.

But he is getting cheekier and cheekier. Today while he was with me on campus, he stopped and was just staring at this young woman who was walking toward us. As she approached, he gave her a big smile and WINKED at her!!! (When did he learn to wink?) She immediately cracked up and said that he made her day. What a casanova!

Anyhow, back to the doctor's visit . . . so we decided to not put Elliot through the discomfort of some pretty extensive blood tests and just cross our fingers that with summer nearing, he'll be sick less often. Interestingly, Dr. Kennedy told me of some recent studies (when I told him that I feel guilty having Elliot in daycare part-time) that have shown that kids that who were in daycare are less likely to have allergies and even cancer as adults! So all of us moms with kids in daycare shouldn't beat ourselves up so much!

The good and the bad

The good news is that Elliot's bout with pneumonia is clearing up. We also went to the ENT doc Friday and El doesn't need tubes/grommets now as his ears have finally healed marvelously from that horrible string of infections.

The bad news is that Elliot now has tonsillitis. How he has come down with a new infection while in the middle of a course of heavy antibiotics has stumped the docs and we've been referred to a pediatrician to get his immune system checked.

I can't help worrying that there is something horribly wrong (the pregnancy hormones certainly don't help!), but in my logical moments I'm sure that it's going to be something more like he's just been on too many antibiotics in his life and their potency flags a bit with him now. Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Musings on baby number two

I don't know if it's because we're so busy with our construction project or if it's because Elliot keeps our minds occupied or if it's just because we've already been through this once before, but this pregnancy just seems so much more cruisey. It also seems to be going by so much more quickly. I can't believe that I'm already 17 weeks in!

I'm trying so hard to appreciate all the weird and wonderful things about being pregnant as this will almost certainly be my last chance to experience it, but honestly there've been quite a lot of times when I don't even think about being pregnant. I'm certainly not as worried all the time and that is a welcome treat!

My body is slowly changing in all the ways that I remember from before. My boobs are in full bloom and very tender! My belly is slowly changing in appearance and now finally beginning to look more like a pregnant tum and less like a beer belly.

But in other ways things seem very different. I didn't suffer from nausea as much this time as I did the last and my nose doesn't seem to have the same super powers as before. I've also felt this baby move from a lot earlier on, but the movements are much gentler and not as frequent as with Elliot. I like to think that this is because this little guy is a bit mellower, but maybe I'm just wishful thinking. It is awfully early still!

What I do know is that I'm already so excited to meet this little guy and I'm looking very forward to our next chance to see him at the 19 week scan. We'll be sure to tell you all about it!

Pregnancy brain strikes again

A couple of days ago when taking a shower, I accidentally put conditioner in my hair first and didn't notice until it wasn't sudsing the way it ought to. The next day I did it again and had a bit of a chuckle at myself for being such a knucklehead. So the next day I paid extra close attention and made sure that I grabbed for the shampoo first. The trouble was that I used it again instead of the conditioner and didn't realize it until I struggled to comb through it. Oi vay! You've got to love pregnancy brain!
