Okay, if I were to be completely honest, I'd have to admit that I've been looking forward to this day much more than the boys. But after seven long months, the day finally arrived, and we all played hookie to go and see Matilda with Nanna and Grandad, Rebeka and Rhiannon. It was the boys' very first big musical and a story that we've read together as well as watching the movie. The fact that there were heaps of child performers and that the music and lyrics were written by WA native Tim Minchin were all just icing on the cake!

Concert at the zoo
When Mom found out about a Pink cover artist concert at the zoo raising funds for Leukemia and Cancer Research, she knew that we would love to go. First we got a few hours to wander the zoo and visit the animals that we haven't seen in so long. And then we danced our tushies off all night listening to all of the great Pink music. Ollie and Dad were feeling a bit shy with their dance moves, but Mom and I had no issues and boogied and wiggled until the very last song. ~ Elliot

Paul is 50!!
Guess who had one of those big birthdays that ends in a 0 this year? That's right Paul is 50! Whoa.

Ollie is Six!
Ollie has been talking about his birthday party when he turns six since last August. So we knew that there was no way we could talk him out of it. Instead, we decided to invite everyone and have a massive party. Ollie wanted to go to a local park with a skate area so that made it easy. The 40 degree forecast wasn't quite so amenable. Nevermind, we packed a kiddie pool, icy poles and a cheap squirt gun for each kid (instead of doing lolly bags) and some frosty beverages for the adults and just embraced the heat.
We outsourced the cake (although the boys and I added the cool decorations) and pizza from Domino's so Paul and I could relax a bit and enjoy ourselves.
And even though Ollie got more presents than any child could possibly ever need from all of his wonderful friends, he was also spoiled by the family when Ollie, Rebeka and Rhiannon shared their birthday celebrations with the family. The telescope from Grumpy, an iPod from Mom and Dad (even though we had convinced him he was too young), and the amazing monster truck prize presents were just icing on the cake.
