I love our house . . .

. . . and it's a good thing with what 2020 has in store for us!

We love this dog, but geesh Bean's has got some issues . . .

. . . like thinking that she's a person and suffering from some seriously destructive separation anxiety.

Conquering fears and embarrassing the boys at the Fringe Festival

Not only did I conquer my fear of holding a snake, but I was also called onto stage to perform air guitar, etc. with Idris Stanton Wham Glam Circus Man. The kids were mortified. Honestly, the videos are not to be missed.

Somebody has been learning the guitar . . .

. . . and it's not Ollie. Too bad my persistence for practicing daily ended not long after this photo was taken. I hope to pick it up again one day; I've always wanted to learn to play guitar.

Luna Park and the pool under the bridge

Going to the famous Luna Park was top on all our lists for our visit to Sydney. The historic art-deco amusement park under the Sydney Harbour Bridge did not disappoint. There were all sorts of old-fashioned amusements including log rides, mega slides, wonky mirrors, the Turkey Trot, and the Rotor, a spinning ride from the 1930's that messed me up for a good 30 minutes afterward.

As a bonus, entry into the North Sydney Olympic swimming pool is included with Luna Park so when we needed a little down time from all the rides, we went for a swim under the bridge.

Taronga Zoo

We laughed at the seal show, were marvelled by the chimp talk, and got nose to nose with tiger cubs. Taronga zoo didn't disappoint.

Tourists in our own country

We bought a Sydney pass which gave us three attractions/activities for the price of two. We already knew that we wanted to go to Taronga Zoo and take a jet boat ride in Sydney Harbour (which was sooo much fun, but couldn't take any pictures), so for the third activity, we decided to do a hop-on/off bus.

It was the perfect activity on New Years Day for us weary tourists. At lunchtime, we hopped off the bus at famous Bondi Beach and had delicious schawarmas by the sea. Dinner was spent in the very touristy Darling Harbour eating pizza in a outdoor cafe and watching the boys play at an epic playground.

Happy New Year's Sydney!

We spent the morning walking along the Sydney Harbour Bridge and doing a super fun scavenger hunt around The Rocks learning all about the history of Sydney and the First Fleet.

In the afternoon, I nabbed a spot at a waterfront park close to our house. The boys met me later for a picnic with some Irish girls who I'd made friends with as we waited for the 9pm family fireworks from the Bridge. The boys were tucked into bed and missed the big show, but Paul and I toasted in the New Year watching the big Sydney fireworks from our backyard.

Ferry to Manly

The Manly surf life savers warned of several irukandji jellyfish reports so we were a bit hesitant to go in the water. Instead, we decided to stroll along the pathway and stumbled upon the very cute Fairy Bower ocean pool which made us all feel a bit more protected.

Sydney New Year's escape

I was so stoked when I found a beautiful AirBnB in the Sydney inner suburbs which had us in the CBD, the Taronga Zoo, or Luna Park in with just one quick bus or ferry ride. The house even had glimpses of the Sydney Harbour Bridge from the backyard. It was perfect!

What we didn't count on was the devastating bush fires burning millions of hectares just tens of kilometres away making the air thick with smoke and giving the sun a freaky pink glow. Armed with asthma puffers we made the best of it, and had an amazing Sydney holiday. And luckily not long after we left, the skies opened up and drenched the fires, giving the fire crews a fighting chance at the infernos.
