Last week, I went in for my eight month checkup with the community health nurse so mom thought it would be a good time for me to write and catch you all up on all my exciting progress. I'm still growing lots, but Mom's pretty relieved because it looks I might be finally slowing down. I get the impression that she thinks I'm a little heavy or something the way she grunts sometimes when she picks me up, but she probably just needs to work out a bit more because the nurse said that I'm a very healthy 10.3 kilos (22.7 pounds) for my height 72.5 cm (29 inches).
The nurse also commented on how very active I am and that Mommy has her hands full. I reckon Mommy and Daddy are lucky because I keep them entertained with my silly antics and I help them stay fit by chasing after me and wrestling me to change my nappies and clothes and stuff. I really like being naked now and I wiggle and squirm and thrash with all I have to eke out a few more precious moments without a nappy or clothes on.
You might also have heard that I'm a man on the move now. It's a funny story really. You see Mommy and Daddy did everything they could to help me learn to roll over. They were beginning to get quite boring really with all of their "rooollll overs" and other nonsense. They really need to just relax and realize that I get around to things when I'm good and ready.
Anyhoo, they up and decided to start plopping me in my crib to go to sleep (I swear they should stop reading these silly parenting books--going to sleep in their arms is a much better arrangement). The thing is, I don't like to go to sleep in my crib and it's quite boring in there just staring at the ceiling or that same old mobile I've been looking at for months. So I started concocting ways to break myself out of there. This meant I needed to be able to get around a bit better. In no time at all I was rolling and skooching and sitting myself up all on my own. Too bad I still can't figure out how to get all of me out of that blasted crib. I can get a leg or an arm or even both arms or both legs out (which is a surprisingly comfie way to nap), but I usually tucker out after a half hour or so. Never fear, I will find a way out. Mark my words.
Other news is that I've started swimming lessons again and I just love it. I think that splashing in the water is pretty much the most fun thing in the whole world (except for maybe blowing raspberries while I'm eating my dinner and spraying Mommy and Daddy with peas and blueberries and ground beef -- that's pretty fun too.) I'm a really good swimmer, y'know. And I've starting going under water and I don't mind at all. Mommy was pretty nervous though when Daddy first swooshed me under. She really is a worry wart sometimes.
Okay, back to playing with my best friend, Nacho. Now, that's one HILARIOUS little dog!!

You write so well. It's such a joy to read your missives. I'm glad Elliot is such a corker and has so much spunk. Kind of like his Momma. And I'm really happy that he is in swimming lessons. I'll always remember when you were 2 years old, jumping off of the diving board, popping up out of the water and swimming to the side of the pool. Of course I was in the water right by your side to help you, but you were a little Miss "I'll do it myself" girl. You loved doing it!
