Oh the things that Elliot thinks to say these days! He's becoming incredibly imaginative and will sometimes tell us elaborate stories about dinosaurs and grandparents and friends from daycare, amongst other things. But this post is more about the things he's come up with lately which aren't quite so nice to hear.
Only two and a half and Elliot is already becoming quite proficient at shmoozing. The other day, out of the blue, he says to me "Mommy you are beautiful." I was chuffed and told him how that it was a very nice thing to say and how he made me feel very happy. And so now I get 'Mommy, you are beautiful' quite a lot. And Mr. Weasel usually quickly follows it up with a request for a snack, tv, mommy's iphone, or some other privilege. I can't believe the kid is working me already!
Elliot has also decided that he likes my singing and will often ask me to sing to him. The other day, Paul asked if Elliot wanted him to sing and Elliot said, "No". When pressed, Elliot said that he didn't like it when Paul sang because it doesn't sound nice like Mommy. At least, I'm better than Paul at something in Elliot's eyes!
And Elliot's favourite thing to say these days is "I be naughty sometimes." Usually I don't make a big deal of this comment and say something like, "We all like to be naughty sometimes, but I like it better when you are a good boy." But Paul decided to probe a bit deeper one day and asked, "What kind of things do you like to do when you are naughty?" And the little brat said that he likes to argue with mommy and make her shout! Aargh! That rascal can push my buttons!
Oh and P.S. The toddler questions have begun. I thought that I would be "super-patient explaining mom". I was for a few weeks. I'm not any longer. It's just that he keeps repeating the SAME question!!!! For example:
E: What are you doing?
Me: I'm making us all lunch.
E: Oh, I want to watch. (Pushes chair to counter and climbs up so he can watch. And then . . .) What are you doing Mommy?
Me: I'm making sandwiches.
E: What are you doing?
Me: (sigh!!!) I'm slicing tomatoes for the sandwiches.
E: Mommy . . . what are you doing?
Me: I'm taking a bloody rocket ship all the way to the moon and back!!!! Can't you see what I'm doing?!?!?!
So much for the patience.

Love it!! Have you gotten the one "Mommy what's under that? Then what's under that? And under that? Why?" Agh!!! It's wonderful to see their curious little minds working, but every once and a while, yeah I'd take a blank stare.
Poking the bear. It's what we call it when a family member (most commonly Finn) is annoying the holy hell out of another family member (most commonly Katy). Finn LOVES to poke the bear!!
