Camping holiday in Gingin

For a change of pace, this school holidays, Paul and I decided to take the boys to a campground without a playground or bouncy pillow in a part of W.A. that we hadn't explored much. It was such a great decision.

On the way up we stopped by Yanchep National Park where we were hoping to take the boys on one of the cool cave tours. These tours were all booked up, but rather than sook about it, we opted for the Aboriginal cultural show instead. Not a bad fall-back plan at all. We all learned how to use a woomera (the thingie used to launch spears), had a go at starting a fire with a couple of sticks, and tried playing the didgeridoo. Well, the boys did anyway. Women aren't allowed to even touch the didgeridoo, and the boys were happy to enforce that cultural rule.

Our campground was on a working farm where every evening at 5, the boys helped round up the sheep, alpacas, and cows for their nightly feed. They even got a ride around the paddock on the farm's quad bike.

And somehow, in between feeding all the animals and pretending to be farmers, we still found time to explore Moore River and the beach at Guilderton, learn all about bees and sample all sorts of honey at a local apiary, and meet Aine, Jareth, Bryn and Karina at the Gravity Centre where the boys learned all about gravity and space and all sorts of sciency things.

And we finally got the chance to test out our Taj Mahal of a tent in stormy weather and were so so happy to discover that it can in fact withstand torrential downpours. Hallelujah!
